Horncastle by Night (Part One)

author: Jamie : Horncastle, UK

Last was . So much so that i couldn't see to drive home. I like the way the street lamps light the fog, and i like the way the camera accentuates this, making it look like the sky is on fire.

The Waterside

I'm reminded lately of the younger, more carefree me of a few years ago. It seems like another lifetime but i'm thinking back to 2002 here. I lived in at that time and i used to travl around, a lot. And i'm remembering a time i was sent to (London)derry on a job. I'm reminded by a photo i've just seen of a . Loyalist mural based on the 'Eddie' character used by the group Iron Maiden. lives. I can remember that day vividly, it was pretty cold and i was listening to radio one all the way...

You Gotta Count Your Ducklings Before You Touch the Turntable

author: Jamie : Horncastle, UK

So, last night i had a fast food craving and went to McDonald's, and i know what you're thinking, and i agree, but it's comfort food. A mothfull of soggy cheeseburger and a gulp of strawberry milkshake reminds me of being a kid. So, my car has a hole in it's exhuast, which makes it sound cool. I drove to the McDonalds drivethru, and i dunno if this is a UK specific thing, but the drivethru is where the hang out. In their suped up vauxhall novas, alloy wheels, furry dice hung from the rear view mirror. The Kevins...

Bring on the Clowns

author: Jamie : Mablethorpe, UK

image
Normally i don't like to post a single photo on it's own, but i found this one whilst digging through some old stuff. These guys live at the back of an old open air near the seafront in Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire. Evil . I was always scared of clowns as a child. Most amusement arcades used to have a version of "The Laughing Clown". A lifesize clown dummy in a glass cabinet with a money slot. When you fed him the correct change he'd start manickly laughing his tits off. I remember i used to shit myself, but...

View for Rent

author: Jamie : Horncastle, UK

image
What kind of a view does £300 a month get you in this town? This kind, that's what. Much nicer than the view i used to enjoy from my first floor* maisonette on a run down estate. * American readers: for first floor read second floor. Here in the UK we start from "ground floor" and work upwards, whereas you, quite sensibly, start with "first floor" I never really took many photos of churchill avenue, there are some of the outdoor sofas but i think that's about it. I'd go back and take more, but as a non-resident, i don't think...

Riverside Pill Boxes

author: Jamie : Peterborough, UK

"I mark the belligerent apathy of some long defunct river defenses. Reinforced concrete gun turrets that were once a last bastion of defense against the inevitability of German invasion. Perennial landmarks who now find themselves the unwitting victims of obscure preservation orders. This aimless government legislature protects its ripened beneficiaries from neither the diligent passage of time nor the rambunctious tenacity of youth." more about pill box defences on google

Abandoned Train Station in Munich, Germany

The abandoned S-Bahn stop in Oberwiesenfeld was opened in 1972 to provide additional means of transportation for the 1972 Summer Olympics. The station in Oberwiesenfeld is one of the few lost places in the Munich downtown area. Today, it has...

The Faces of Southwest Portland

I spent this past week in Portland for a community development conference, and spent plenty of time exploring the many interesting parts of the city. PDX is split up into quadrants named for their geographic proximity to the Willamette River,...
