"The Aboriginal people of this area are placed in their country through the creation story of Gabul, the carpet snake. Here in the Townsville region, the Wulgurukaba story of the journey of Gabul explains the shape of the coast, its islands and its rivers. Gubul came from the north, slithering between Hinchinbrook Island and the coast to form the Hinchinbrook Channel. He continued south to create the Palm Islands, forming the smaller ones first then looping east to form the largest island in the group. He rested there and laid some eggs then moved on to Yunbenun (Magnetic Island), where his head...

Hey citynoise folk. It's been a while since I posted, as I haven't been up to a whole lot. However, I recently did a mind-boggling 10-day tour of New Zealand. I flew into Auckland where these first few were snapped: These next two were spotted at a stop somewhere between Auckland and Rotorua: This huge eye was on a wall outside the room I was staying that night, in Palmerston North: The next two aren't far from each other in Kaikoura: Wandering around Queenstown's little alleys and lanes, I came across this distinctive little Maori-esque piece: These three are from a wander I did around...

Here's a little tropical summer warmth for you poor souls suffering in the snow. Take heart, it's not too pleasant here, either. 35 degree (95 fahrenheit) heat, 80 percent humidity makes it very unpleasant to be outdoors for any extended amount of time. The rains from Tropical Cyclone Olga however did provide a reprieve from the heat for a week or so. Just a short wander from my place is a huge channel that drains the water from surrounding suburbs. I headed out in the height of the wind and rain and got these pics for your enjoyment. ^ This is our local...

After a night of insomnia, I decided to ride down to the river to watch the sun come up. ^ This is one of several structures that semi-circles a large field. I'm not sure what they are supposed to represent and I can't decide if I like them or not. ^ But you can climb inside them, it's a bit cramped but this is the view looking skyward. ^ The second last photo I took with my camera before it disappeared into the ether. So until I can afford to buy another, this is the last 'visions of Townsville' for a while. You don't...

Eastern Australia recently experienced some of the worst dust storms for many years. The drought, coupled with sporadic bushfires has made conditions less than pleasant for several weeks now. Irritating as the dust is on the eyes, nose and throat, it does make for some spectacular sunset studies.
