Mullets Galore!

author: Peter : New York, NY

Man spotted sporting a on the A train... this is a rather rare sight in -proper. Though generally more localized in and regions, the mullet does occasionally penetrate into the heart of the city. Then, theres always a chance that he's going back to the fatherland of mullets... . www.mulletsgalore.com

The Highline Debate...

author: Nick Aster : New York, NY

image
The Highline project has taken New York by storm. If you're not in New York, you might have never heard of it - it's a plan to turn an abandoned elevated railway into a linear park of sorts, and it was the dream project of practically every architect and urban planner in existence last summer. Here's a very cool flash demonstration of what it might ultimately look like. It's also gained incredible amounts of local support and enthusiasm - I went to the unveiling of the 4 finalist designs last summer at the AIA and there were so many people there...

130 Cedar Street

author: jack : New York, NY

the building in the center with the scaffolding is the one i worked in when i first came to work in manhattan. it is still covered from 9/11. the building to the right was bankers trust plaza. it took over two city blocks. the old apartments were torn down to accomodate the 50 story structure. there was a bar on albany street where you could get a glass of beer for a nickel. gone. there was the apartment where edgar allen poe lived while he wrote the raven. gone. my building shows...

Chicken Run

author: kc : New York, NY

image
A sidewalk drama in Harlem. I was with a walking tour, and we encountered a woman who was trying to rescue a rooster--she'd discovered it wandering the sidewalk and had discovered she could attract its attention and lead it by dangling a shiny CD in front of it. She said she'd been calling anyone--ASPCA, NYPD, 911--for an hour. Snappy feet. The cops finally showed up--to applause! What happened next? I have no idea. I liked the birdy name of the shop next door.

Warsaw in Different Periods - Staszic Palace

This time I`m showing different "stages" of Staszic Palace, the headcourter of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The building wes designed by Antonio Corazzi in classicistic style and erected between 1820 and 1823. First it looked like this: 1852: closer: Then in 1892-93 building...
